Jubilee Memorial College (JMC), Mokokchung, observed World Environment Day on 5 June 2026 at the JMC New Campus Site under the theme “Inspired by Nature: For Climate, For Our Future.” The program was jointly organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS), Jubilee Memorial College, and the Department of Environmental Science (EVS) with the objective of promoting environmental awareness and encouraging active participation in environmental conservation.

The inaugural session commenced with a welcome address delivered by the NSS Program Officer, JMC. In his address, he welcomed all participants and highlighted the significance of observing World Environment Day. He emphasized the collective responsibility of individuals and institutions in making the Earth a healthier and more sustainable place for future generations.

This was followed by an exhortation delivered by the Principal of Jubilee Memorial College. In his address, he spoke extensively on the growing environmental challenges faced by the world today, including pollution, global warming, and climate change. He pointed out that climate change is no longer a distant threat but a reality already affecting communities worldwide. Referring to unusual weather events and environmental disruptions, including floods occurring in regions traditionally associated with dry climatic conditions, he stressed that environmental degradation is largely the result of human activities and unsustainable patterns of living.

The Principal emphasized that although people are generally aware of the causes of environmental problems, many remain unwilling to change their habits and lifestyles. He remarked that society often expects others to take responsibility while overlooking individual contributions to environmental degradation. Stressing that meaningful change begins at the personal level, he encouraged participants to adopt the mindset of, “I will do something about it.”

A total of 52 participants took part in the program, including students, faculty and staff. An important feature of the program was the involvement of parents in the conservation effort. The parents voluntarily adopted one sapling each and pledged to care for the trees until its maturity. This gesture reflected a meaningful commitment towards ensuring the long-term survival and growth of the planted saplings. A total of about 130 tree saplings consisting of 8 different species was planted at New Jubilee Memorial College campus spreading across 100 Acres.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by HoD, Department of EVS.
