Sociology Dept. Educational Trip to Sikkim

Wed, Mar 2023

BA 6th Semester, Sociology (Hons) students undertook a One Week Educational Trip to Sikkim during our winter break from 6th -12th January 2023. Our journey started on 6th January 2023 from Mokokchung town to Mariani Railway Station, Assam by bus, then by the Awadh-Assam Express train and next morning, we reached NJP Railway Station. We reached Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim around 3 PM by taxi.

Next day, the first place to visit was the Nathula Pass which is approximately 55 Kms from Gangtok and connects Sikkim to the China border. On our way back, we stopped at the Baba Harbajan Singh Mandir located between Nathula and Jelepla Pass which is dedicated to the selflessness and bravery of Baba Harbajan Singh, a soldier of the Indian Army whose spirit is believed to protect every soldier in the high attitude of the Eastern Himalayas. From there, we visited the Tsomgo or Changgu Lake .

The next day, we travelled to Lachung and visited the Yumthung Valley. Yumthung Valley is also nicknamed the ‘Valley of Flowers’ and is one of the most scenic places. Later, we headed to Yumesamdong, also popularly known as Zero Point. It is located around 15 Kms away from Yumthung Valley. It is one of the most frequented tourist places in Lachung. The China border is just beyond the Zero Point though no tourists are allowed to go there.

We returned back to Mokokchung on 12th January 2023 with the best of Sikkim memories.
